Located in Department of Social Services – Various locations: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class follows established laws, rules, policies as set forth by the New York State Department of Social Services as well as all departmental protocols relating to the delivery of Temporary Assistance services in determining initial categorical classification and financial eligibility for the various programs and services the department provides. Responsibilities involve interviewing customers, opening new cases, working with customers on achieving self-sufficiency goals, and regularly monitoring and taking action upon any change in a case to re-evaluate categorical classification, income maintenance and continued financial eligibility. Incumbents use a variety of management database systems to keep detailed automated records on all actions taken on cases, and follow established protocols with regard to case documentation and maintenance. This level is distinguished from Eligibility Clerk in that only the Eligibility Examiner or higher level eligibility staff has the authority to make eligibility determinations and redeterminations, compute and authorize customer budgets, and open, close, or reopen cases. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in planning and carrying out assignments within prescribed rules, policies and procedures. Supervision may be exercised over Eligibility Clerks and clerical support staff. Guidance and instruction to co-workers and subordinate staff is provided on an on-going basis. Does related work as required.
Required
Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either: (a) a Bachelor’s degree; or (b) four years of experience where the primary function of the position was examining, investigating, or evaluating claims for assistance, veteran’s or unemployment benefits or insurance, using established criteria to determine eligibility; or (c) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title.

Located in the Department of Social Services - White Plains: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class supervises, monitors, audits, approves and processes claims, contracts, payments, bank records, support cases, and other agreements for the County or Westchester Medical Center. This class differs from the lower-level Assistant Supervisor of Claims Auditing title by the complexity of assignment, reporting relationships within the work unit, and that the Supervisor must have considerable knowledge and understanding of the laws, regulations, policies and procedures of automated accounting systems to implement County-wide policies and procedures relating to the payment of claims, encumbrances, and state aid requirements governing operations. Supervision is exercised over a number of support staff and clerical employees. Does related work as required.
Required
A high school or equivalency diploma and six years of experience in financial record keeping, accounting or auditing, two years of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative support capacity, and two years of which must have been in an automated accounting systems environment.
Substitutions
Satisfactory completion of 30 credits may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the above stated general experience. However, there is no substitution for the two years of supervisory or automated systems experience.

Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities – Valhalla: Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of a Type IB (more than 2.5 million gallons per day [mgd]) and IIB (less than 2.5 mgd) Water Treatment Plant containing facilities for chlorination, corrosion control, Ultra-Violet (UV) Treatment, as well as distribution. An incumbent plans and gives direct supervision to a wide variety of operation, maintenance and repair staff. Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with operating procedures, departmental goals and environmental standards. An incumbent is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The Assistant Water District Superintendent supervises at least one Water Treatment Plant Operator - IIB and may supervise a number of operators and mechanics. Does related work as required.
Required
Possession of a Grade IIB (or higher) Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator and Grade D certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health under Part 5 of the State Sanitary Code; and high school, trade school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience in the operation or maintenance of a water treatment plant, including four years as a water treatment operator or trainee.
