Located in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation - Yonkers (Rotating Shifts): Under supervision, an incumbent of this class is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of a park so that it is an attractive, safe facility. Incumbents function as "working foreman" in supervising and participating in the work of maintaining a park, or perform work as a foreman in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. Work is performed with considerable independence, but is often generated through written or oral orders. Consultation and advice is available from General Maintenance and specialists in the department. Incumbents may supervise a number of maintenance, laboring and seasonal employees. Does related work as required.
Required
Either: (a) High School or equivalency diploma and one year of experience where the primary function of the position was grounds maintenance, including the operation of motorized and grounds maintenance equipment; or (b) High School or equivalency diploma and two years of experience where the primary function of the position was general grounds maintenance; or; (c) five years of experience where the primary function of the position was grounds maintenance, including the operation of motorized and grounds maintenance equipment; or (d) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was general grounds maintenance; or (e) a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience within the limits of (a), (b), (c) and (d) above.
Special Requirements
(1) Possess and maintain a valid license to operate a vehicle in New York State. (2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation(s) 1910.132-140 - Personal Protective Equipment, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety while in the title. Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities – Valhalla: Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of a Type IB (more than 2.5 million gallons per day [mgd]) and IIB (less than 2.5 mgd) Water Treatment Plant containing facilities for chlorination, corrosion control, Ultra-Violet (UV) Treatment, as well as distribution. An incumbent plans and gives direct supervision to a wide variety of operation, maintenance and repair staff. Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with operating procedures, departmental goals and environmental standards. An incumbent is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The Assistant Water District Superintendent supervises at least one Water Treatment Plant Operator - IIB and may supervise a number of operators and mechanics. Does related work as required.
Required
Possession of a Grade IIB (or higher) Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator and Grade D certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health under Part 5 of the State Sanitary Code; and high school, trade school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience in the operation or maintenance of a water treatment plant, including four years as a water treatment operator or trainee.

Located in the Dept. of Parks, Recreation & Conservation - Tuckahoe (Rotating Shifts): Under general supervision, an incumbent of this foreman level position is responsible for planning and implementing an electrical maintenance and repair program. Responsibilities include supervising a staff, including at least one journeyman; inspecting facilities, planning and laying out work; and estimating materials and costs, including staffing requirements. Work is performed with considerable independence and in accordance with departmental protocols, procedures and trade standards including the National Electrical Code and OSHA. More complex jobs may require detailed instructions, blueprints or sketches from an engineer or technician. The incumbent is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The difference between this foreman level position and that of the journeyman is that the foreman supervises at least one journeyman electrician and may supervise a number of lower level full time, seasonal and temporary personnel. Performs related work as required.
