Instructions for Applying On-line

1.

Read the examination announcement carefully to be sure you meet the minimum qualifications before applying.

2.

Select the exams which you wish to apply for by clicking the “Select Exam” checkbox, and then click the “Add to Cart” button. After adding all the exams you wish to apply for to the cart, click “Apply Now”.

3.

If this is your first time applying on-line, you must create an account and establish a user ID and a password. If you have already created an account, log in using your existing user ID and password.

4.

After you create an account, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail with a link you must click to activate the account. After activation, you can access your account with the user ID and password you established during the account creation process.

5.

Throughout the application process, you can view the exams in your cart by clicking “View Cart”.  You can also remove any exam from your cart by clicking “Remove” in your cart.

6.

You can opt to save your application information and continue at another time.  If you do so, scheduled exams will remain in your cart until after the last filing date has passed, and continuous recruitment exams will be saved for sixty days after you added the exam to your cart.  When you log in after these deadlines have been reached, you will receive a message alerting you that the exams have been removed from your cart.

7.

Complete the application process by reading each page carefully and following the instructions. You must visit all required sections, even if you don’t make any changes.

8.

Submit the online credit card payment of the non-refundable application processing fee unless you qualify for a waiver. See below for more information.

9.

Submit your online application before midnight on the last date for filing stated on the announcement.

Processing Fee
You will be charged an application processing fee for each exam you apply for. The fee is charged to defray the cost of processing applications, and is due when you submit your application. The fee is non-refundable. It will not be returned if you decide you didn't want to apply for that test, your application is disapproved, you do not take the test(s) or you are not successful on the examination. Also, the fee payment cannot be transferred to another examination.

If you wish to apply on-line, you must choose the option to pay by credit card unless you qualify for a fee waiver as described below.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express at this time.

If you are an employee covered by a labor agreement with negotiated discounts for promotional exam fees, the discount will be applied automatically to promotional exams in your cart.

We verify billing address and credit card security code with the credit card company to reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions. Since we are unable to verify foreign addresses, the credit card billing address must be in the United States.

Your application is not "filed" until you click the "submit" button and receive a confirmation notice/number, which you should retain for future reference.

Fee Waivers
The application fee may be waived with proof of supplemental Social Security payments, public assistance, receiving foster care, or are unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household.  Choose the option, "I am unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household."

No fee is due if you are eligible for Medicaid, or receiving Supplemental Social Security payments, or Public Assistance (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families/Family Assistance or Safety Net Assistance) or are certified Job Training Partnership Act/Workforce Investment Act eligible through a state or local social service agency. Choose the option, "I am receiving public assistance."

All claims are subject to verification. Any false representation is grounds for barring or rescinding an appointment.

Maintaining Your Account Information
You can create and maintain your account information without applying for an exam.  This includes reporting name, address, and e-mail changes to the Westchester Department of Human Resources. When you create your account, we will automatically update the County’s Exam System with your current name, address, and e-mail if you have previously applied for an exam with Westchester County.  Thereafter, any changes you make to this information will automatically update the Exam System, and you will be notified by e-mail regarding these changes.

It is critical that you maintain a current e-mail address on file because we use this to contact you in the event you forget your password or user ID, and also to notify you regarding name, address, and/or e-mail changes made to your account. You can also update your education and experience information at any time without applying for an examination.
