Located in the Department of Corrections - Valhalla: Under general supervision, incumbents in this class perform professional psycho-social evaluation and treatment of individuals with behavioral health problems, serving as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team including psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses and other support staff. This level is distinguished from the senior level in that the senior is expected to work more independently and handle more complex cases. Supervision is not a feature of this class; however, incumbents may provide leadership and guidance to student social workers. Does related work as required.
Required
Possession of a valid license and current registration as an LMSW or LCSW, issued by the New York State Department of Education.
Special Requirements
Must maintain license and registration as an LMSW or LCSW throughout the course of employment in this title.
Notes
(1) Unless otherwise noted, only experience gained after attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience. (2) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment. Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. (3) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.
Special Notes
(1) Candidates who posses a limited permit as an LMSW or LCSW may be appointed on a temporary basis for up to 12 months. Candidates who do not attain license and registration cannot remain in this title beyond the 12 month period. (2) Education beyond the secondary level must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
