Located in the Human Rights Commission's Office - White Plains: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class is responsible for the administration of investigations, case management and conciliation of claims regarding civil rights violations against classes protected under the County’s Human Rights and Fair Housing Laws. Other responsibilities involve acting as an investigator on more complex discrimination claims, overseeing cases from inception to completion, investigating patterns and practices of discrimination, and assisting with the construction of corrective action plans. Supervision is exercised over investigative staff. Does related work as required.
Required
A Bachelor's Degree and either: (a) four years of professional experience in investigatory work relating to human rights, equal employment, fair housing, or a related field where the primary function of the position was conducting fact finding interviews; or (b) four years of experience interpreting and applying civil rights laws and regulations, performing investigative work, mediating disputes or negotiating agreements.
Substitutions
Satisfactory completion of 30 credits towards a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field, may be substituted for one year of experience, or a JD Degree may substitute for one year of experience.
Special Requirements
Possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver's License.
Notes
(1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment. Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. (2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by the job description or examination announcement.

Education beyond the secondary level must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
